Counties

Eleven counties, one studio.

Devon, England

Garden Rooms in Devon →

Create the perfect space to work, relax, train or entertain with a fully insulated garden room from Arden & Oak. We design, manufacture and install premium garden rooms throughout Devon — helping homeowners create beautiful spaces without the cost and disruption of moving house or building an extension.

Cornwall, England

Garden Rooms in Cornwall →

Cornwall asks more of a garden building than most counties. Salt air, exposed sites and unforgiving weather demand a different specification — and a builder used to working with it. Arden & Oak delivers architectural garden rooms across the Duchy, from Bodmin and Truro down to Penzance and out along the north coast to Bude and Padstow.

Somerset, England

Garden Rooms in Somerset →

Somerset is one of the most design-aware counties we work in. Bath in particular has a quietly demanding client base — Georgian stonework, Listed neighbours, and planning officers who notice everything. Our architectural language sits well in that context: restrained timber, considered proportions, no aluminium gloss for its own sake.

Dorset, England

Garden Rooms in Dorset →

Dorset clients tend to be planning long. We've built for owners who want a garden office now and a hot-tub-side bar in three years; for downsizers who want the spare bedroom back; for retirees making space for the next chapter. Whatever the brief, the building has to earn its place in the garden — and that's the job we like.

Bristol, England

Garden Rooms in Bristol →

Bristol is one of the most design-literate cities we build in. The Clifton Georgian terraces, the Redland Edwardian villas, the Victorian streets of Bishopston and Southville — every part of the city has its own architectural character, and a garden room has to sit alongside that, not shout against it. Our buildings are drawn for the specific plot: timber cladding, restrained glazing, considered proportions.

London, England

Garden Rooms in London →

London gardens ask one thing above all: make every square metre count. Plots are tighter, planning culture is more attentive, and neighbours are closer than in our South West counties — which is why our London builds lean toward longer, narrower, taller-glazed pavilions with discreet eaves and considered roof drainage. We design and install across all four quadrants of the city, with a planned-route install crew working week-on, week-off between the South West and the capital.

Surrey, England

Garden Rooms in Surrey →

Surrey is one of the most active garden-office markets in the country. Wealthy commuter belt, generous gardens, a planning culture that's straightforward in most boroughs and a client base used to specifying premium materials by default. We've built across Elmbridge, Mole Valley, Waverley and Tandridge — the language tends to lean toward larger glazed elevations, wider footprints and a stronger architectural posture than our South West work.

Berkshire, England

Garden Rooms in Berkshire →

Berkshire briefs lean ambitious. The Ascot, Sunningdale and Wentworth golf-corridor postcodes ask for larger, glazier buildings — often studio-plus-pool-pavilion combinations rather than pure home offices. Toward Newbury and the Pang Valley the brief shifts: smaller, more discreet, often AONB-sensitive on the chalk-downland gardens to the north.

Hertfordshire, England

Garden Rooms in Hertfordshire →

Hertfordshire is commuter heartland — fast trains into King's Cross, Euston and Moorgate, and a client base that's been hybrid-working for half a decade and is now ready to commit to a permanent workspace at the bottom of the garden. Most briefs here are office-led, sometimes office-plus-gym, with a strong preference for proper insulation and acoustic separation from the house.

Buckinghamshire, England

Garden Rooms in Buckinghamshire →

Buckinghamshire is one of our highest-spec catchment areas. Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, the Marlow and Henley-adjacent villages, the Chalfonts — a Chilterns-and-Thames mix where most projects are larger than our county average, often multi-purpose (office, gym and entertaining space combined), and almost always closely planned for AONB sensitivity.

Oxfordshire, England

Garden Rooms in Oxfordshire →

Oxfordshire's design culture is sharper than most counties we work in. Architects on the doorstep, a planning department that pays close attention to outbuilding design, and a client base that's specific about materials — natural Cotswold stone if possible, oak or charred-timber cladding if not, and absolutely no PVC. Our work suits the brief.

Kent, England

Garden Rooms in Kent →

Kent splits into two sensibilities. The west — Sevenoaks, Tunbridge Wells, the Weald villages — leans toward the same Surrey-stockbroker spec we see across the M25 belt: larger, glazier, more architectural. The east — Canterbury, Whitstable, the Wealden coast — leans quieter and more rural, with a stronger emphasis on natural materials and lower roof profiles.

Hampshire, England

Garden Rooms in Hampshire →

Hampshire is one of our busier southern counties — the split between the cathedral-city calm of Winchester, the working suburbs around Southampton and Portsmouth, and the commuter-belt villages north of the M3 gives the county a wide brief range. We see everything here: minimalist home-offices for hybrid workers in Farnborough and Basingstoke, larger studios on the rural plots around the Test Valley, and quieter cabin-style buildings in the New Forest fringe.

Wiltshire, England

Garden Rooms in Wiltshire →

Wiltshire briefs skew toward the substantial. Larger rural plots — Marlborough, Pewsey Vale, the villages north of Salisbury — mean we're often working with generous footprints (5 × 4 m and up), and the local architectural language leans traditional: painted timber, stone-coloured cladding, pitched or hipped roofs where the neighbours have them. The exception is Swindon, which reads as a straightforward suburban garden-office market and takes to the same clean flat-roof language we build across the South East.

West Sussex, England

Garden Rooms in West Sussex →

West Sussex is a strong garden-office market. The stretch between Chichester and Haywards Heath sits in the same commuter-belt logic as Surrey — larger 1930s and 1950s plots, homeowners who moved out of London during the shift to remote-first work, and a real appetite for a proper year-round workspace at the bottom of the garden. Coastal West Sussex — Bognor, Worthing, Littlehampton — is quieter and skews smaller, but we still build a steady stream of straightforward home-offices here.

East Sussex, England

Garden Rooms in East Sussex →

East Sussex divides between the coastal cities — Brighton & Hove, Eastbourne, Hastings — and the Weald and Downs villages inland. Brighton is a design-literate market: our darker cedar and thermo-ash claddings do well here, and the smaller Regency-plot geometry usually means a tighter footprint (3.6 × 2.8 m is a common spec). Inland — Lewes, Uckfield, Battle, Rye — the briefs get more generous, and we regularly build 5 × 4 m studios on rural plots.

Isle of Wight, England

Garden Rooms on the Isle of Wight →

The Isle of Wight is one of our more logistically involved catchments — every install has to cross the Solent — but the briefs are among the most enjoyable we take on. Coastal cottages up around Yarmouth and Ventnor, larger Victorian villas above Ryde, and quieter inland plots toward Godshill and Brading. Almost every job here calls for a robust exterior spec: charred cedar or thermo-treated ash, dark-frame glazing, and a low, pitched or flat profile that reads well against the island vernacular.

South Devon, England

Premium Garden Rooms across South Devon →

South Devon is where we started. Our studio is in Paignton, half an hour from the top of the South Hams — which means most of the projects on our current install rotation are within an hour of our own front door. Between Newton Ferrers and Newton Abbot the market splits into three distinct sensibilities: the estuary villages (Yealm, Dart, Teign) where design briefs skew quiet, natural and architectural; the South Hams coast (Salcombe, Thurlestone, Bantham) where coastal cladding and precise levelling matter more than square metres; and the wider working towns (Kingsbridge, Totnes, Dartington) where the brief is usually a proper year-round workspace for a hybrid household.

the South Hams, England

Bespoke Garden Rooms across the South Hams →

The South Hams is one of the more design-attentive markets we work in. Almost the entire district sits inside the South Devon AONB, so every project we quote gets a plot-specific planning check before the design is finalised. What we consistently find here is a client base that values considered materials over specification-sheet volume — the buildings that pass first time and read well against the local vernacular are the ones in dark cladding, low profiles, and anthracite framing.

Luxury Garden Rooms, England

Luxury Garden Rooms in Devon →

Luxury doesn't mean specification-sheet volume. It means the right materials, the right proportions, and the right level of detailing to sit comfortably alongside a considered house. The buildings we're most often asked to design for high-value Devon properties aren't the biggest — they're the ones that feel inevitable in the plot.

Bespoke Garden Rooms, England

Bespoke Garden Rooms in Devon →

Bespoke means we start with your plot and your brief and design from there — footprint, roof profile, glazing position, cladding, interior — rather than adjusting an off-the-shelf template. Around a third of what we build across Devon is fully bespoke; the rest is one of our production models specified to the plot.

Garden Offices, England

Garden Offices in South Devon →

The garden office is the most common brief we take on across South Devon. Hybrid working has become the default for most professional households, and a spare-room compromise inside the house rarely holds up long-term. A properly specified garden office is more like a small low-energy building than a shed — considered insulation, generous glazing, real heating, real acoustics.

Garden Gyms, England

Garden Gyms in South Devon →

Garden gyms are our second most-common South Devon brief. The difference between a good garden gym and a useless one comes down to three things: the internal ceiling height (2.4 m minimum for standing lifts), the floor structure (reinforced sub-frame for weighted equipment), and the ventilation (proper cross-flow, not just an extractor fan).

Golf Simulator Studios, England

Golf Simulator Garden Rooms in Devon →

A garden room that houses a golf simulator properly is a very different building from a garden office. The internal ceiling height has to accommodate a natural full-swing (3.0 m minimum, 3.2 m ideal for taller golfers), the footprint has to allow for a proper hitting bay and screen setback, and the roof structure has to carry a screen frame under load. It's the single most technical specification we build.
